This book didn’t quite live up to the fun and artistry of the first Dinotopia. Professor Denison and Will have been living on Dinotopia for several years, learning the marvels of this lost island continent where dinosaurs and humans have coexisted peacefully for centuries, cut off from the rest of the world.

Now, even if you accept that sunstones are essentially a limitless power source, it’s silly to think that these things could have been created without similar advancements anywhere else. I liked the first Dinotopia book so much, I decided to read the rest of the series.
Often, a dinosaur that senses it will die soon dinktopia make a pilgrimage to the bensath and die there so that it may be eaten by the carnivores and continue to contribute to the good of the island as a whole. This book is absolutely stunning.

Right away we are welcomed back in with open arms as if we are old friends recently returned for a visit. As the part of the tablet cracked since it was first carved, the last portion of it had been missing, but was recovered in the TV mini-series Dinotopia. The art in this book is incredible, almost mindblowing.
Basal synapsids are present as well; at least one Lystrosaurus and one Edaphosaurus can be found in the city of Pooktook. Arthur and Will both set out on adventures, one for training, and the other to learn more about the caves underneath the cities. I could have done without the action movie elements, and I was a little sad that this one was not written as a journal.

Although this sequel begins to slip slightly into base a ‘The World Beneath’ is the sequel to James Gurney’s ‘Dinotopia’. I was still able to roll with this, but I had a harder time forgiving the interplay of words and pictures here, which lacked the nuance of the first book. It’s a simple adventure story that steals heavily from the Atlantis myth. The gentle pace of the first book and its themes of nature and sustainable living are traded in for lots of robot dinosaurs!?!!
About the Author Before writing and illustrating DinotopiaJames Gurney painted reconstructions of ancient civilizations for National Geographic magazine. In the fashion of authors such as Edgar Rice Burroughsthe first and fourth books are written as if they were Arthur’s journalswith Gurney going so far as to explain in the introductions how he happened to come across the old, waterlogged volumes.
It is the setting for the book series with which it shares its name. This book is written in third-person, which has no such advantages or shortcuts.
