First published in Marchseven months before the first Dragonlance novel, this module is the first Dragonlance product released. It was probably a mercy for all concerned, as I was a very inexperienced DM in those days! Once the adventure gets to Xak Tsaroth, however, things get much better. On the second level of the dungeon the PCs must confront and defeat Khisanth. This module corresponds to the events told in the first half of the novel Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.
I would recommend staying in the despari area before starting the module because there are quite a few people to talk to and quite a few books to read to familiarize oneself with the setting. Dark Sun Dark Sun: Tracy Hickman is the designer of this adventure and the entire Dragonlance series was his idea although aided by many other TSR staff along the way.
