I recognise some of my own thoughts and feelings in them sometimes, but mostly their lives are quite different from mine. The writing style is, in my opinion terrible and choppy, the characters are malditoss and interesting and there’s absolutely no plot, or nothing surprising happening in this book.
We are still in the introductory pages, waiting for something – ANYthing – to happen. There may be some small measure of value in seeing his perception of the culture around him, but this is far too small a pleasure for us to bother with the tedium of his characters. Have avoided Fitzgerald ever since. Pocket Book’s Enriched Classics present the great works of world literature enhanced for the contemporary reader. While I have rarely ever abandoned a book, I was unable to move past the first third of this messy, boring, lazy novel.

Read this book in three days, easy, basic, simple. However, he is still called up for active duty, which is a welcome respite from his exceedingly miserable life with Gloria.

None of the characters in malditoos book were likeable. Tender is The Night is so far my favorite book and I thought that I would enjoy this one too. If this doesn’t get on your nerves pretty fast then maybe the shoppy and lazy writing style will do the trick for you, gitzgerald I can assure you, that The Beautiful and Damned is worst than Gatsby.
Given his stellar reputation, I gave him a second chance with this.
